Online video sharing website YouTube propose to display music videos free of charge.
The site that claims "over 100 millions views a day" has revealed plans to show music videos to all of its users, for free. YouTube is acquiring the rights to show "every music video ever created" (Steve Chen, YouTube co-founder.)
YouTube plan to become one of the mainstream entertainment sites like Yahoo. Warner Music Group and EMI confirmed that they have been in discussions with YouTube. "Yahoo Launch is almost an exact parallel of MTV but viewed through a Web browser," Chen said. "We add the whole user-community feel, with 100 million views every day and user-generated content."
Getting the music companies to agree to the plans is somewhat essential for YouTube, because in the past they have had trouble with copyrighted material being used in users videos. "Right now we're trying to very quickly determine how and what the model is to distribute this content and we're very aggressive in assisting the labels in trying to get the content on to YouTube," Chen said.
