Giving Google a funky URL

You ever wanted to slap a cool url on Google like http://search/ or http://google/ ? Well NOW YOU CAN!

Leaving the weird attitude behind, by editing your host's file you can map Google's IP to any URL [hostname] you want, making you look cool!*

*Not.

Step One - make sure you are using windows.

Mac or Linux users - You're not 1337 enough for this too-cool-for-school tutorial.

Step Two - Find your hosts file.

Move the mouse towards your hard drive icon in my computer. Click but twice, then enter the 'Windows' folder, then into 'System32'. Once there, find the 'drivers' folder then head to 'etc'.

For those lazy people who don't like too much mouse action, paste the following into your Run box (or your vista start search): C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc/

It might be a good time to point out that you should not do anything I don't tell you to do. If you do, it's your own damn fault if you bugger up your pc.

Step Three - Do not touch anything.

Add the following line to the BOTTOM of the file called hosts. (Note- it doesn't have an extension, and you had to give the program you're editing it with admin rights to save it.)

You can replace 'google' with whatever the hell you want.

That's it. Just type whatever you replaced google with into your browser. This is mine:
