AC: Revelations - Desmond's New Face

Just a heads up: some of the comments below contain story spoilers, read them at your own risk!

I am being a mega nerd fanboy here, but this is annoying me. I've been waiting for Assassin's Creed revelations for aaaaages, and was so excited to finally play it when it unlocked on Steam. But here's the thing: Ubusoft have decided that it's time to replace the main character's face completely. I mean it's nothing like his previous incarnation:

What's up with that? It's a different person?! This kind of developer stuff makes me angry.

Now I'm going to actually complete it before passing further judgement... then maybe I'll write a post about the series. I've been meaning to do that for a while, I made some videos a while back to showcase how awesome the games are but never published them.

Perhaps that wasn't worth a blog post... but whatevs. Fanboi venting was needed.

This reminds me of how annoyed I was at Sucker Punch Productions for using a different voice actor for the main character in the second installment of the inFAMOUS series. I couldn't take the game seriously any more, plus the new voice had a soft touch. Which that in itself doesn't match with someone who causes havoc in a city.

I hated the face change! They overhauled it! Desmond's face, Altair's and Ezio's! I wrote about it on both the Ubisoft and ACR facebook pages and GOT ATTACKED by other fans. They see no difference apparently. I guess they are blind then? I am a huuuuge fangirl when it comes to AC, but this face overhaul ruined the game for me. As Tom had said, I cannot take it seriously any more. It's like I'm playing a bad fan made copy of it. Desmond now looks like he's on crack, Ezio looks like an ape (seriously, have you seen that face?) and Altair looks cross eyed. Why in God's name did they do that?! Everyone keeps saying something about some black room which was used to IMPROVE the characters' faces. Honestly, I don't see that much of a difference. Was it worth changing the protagonists' faces over it? NO. Ubisoft has failed this time. Major fail.

I have to agree, I completely given up on the story of this game becoz I keep skipping the cutscenes to make it feel like it's a real AC game. Gameplay is very good new stuff like with the grenades and tower defence thingys are quite good, but the faces just kill the mood... Desmond has gone from an assassin to an old plumber in 1 scene....

I can understand that them changing Desmond's face may piss you guys off, but come on , are you really stop gonna playing the series just because of his face , we don't even see him much in it anyway, but i'm just glad that it's not gonna stop me from playing it , for i don't mind the way he looks, come on it's not like they made his face look so different that you can't tell it's him.

@Daniel It's not a case of not wanting to play the game anymore for me, nor is it that I can't recognise him anymore entirely. It's the fact that Ubisoft have changed it for no apparent reason - I mean it is definitely very different from the other games.

Ezio's face is also pretty different too. It just seems that they've changed things for the sake of it, and I can't fathom why at all.

@Alan Edwardes I guess you have a point that his face was changed for no reason, but to be honest i though his face just changed to represent that Desmond, Ezio and Altair faces were just forging together because the animus was confused about who he was because his mind really stuffed up, but i guess we all have different opinions.

Probably it's because of ending of the contract with this dude: http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs47/f/200... Who is actually a model for the former Altair/Ezio/Desmond face. In that case, if he doesn't want to make it for more parts of AC, they had no choice. Sorry for my horrible English.

this is my opinion. i loved AC games since playing AC2. This was because it was cool, parkour combined with stealth, beauty, history and music. creating an entire world and including facts which have actually helped me out, in background reading for school etc. The main cool thing was Ezio, the look and how he seemed smart and cocky and unlike geeky generic characters from badly made medival games. the fact that we have warmed towards his features and overall look for 3 games in a row, through desmond, altaiir and ezio, made me like the game even more becaue i had a connection to the character. In some ways many fans are buying this game for this character. So to utterly change it in the final game of a character which we were literally with FROM BIRTH is rediculous. what a fucking stupid descision. It spoilt the game experience because i was having to get used to a new character that had simply donned an assassin hood. Also i strongly beleive had this character looked like that in the first AC the would never of got as popular as they did. The face is nerdy, desmond looks like a prick. Whereas before he looked much more street smart. There is no good reason to change a characters face, in the final stage of its life. argument above about the animus: the previous face was given to all characters moron. AND if it was for the benefit of looking graphically superior, this failed ultimately aswell, ezios face hardly moved when he talked and unrealistic smug lips. in short, i hate the change i really hope to goes back, because ultimately a lead in a game is what holds it together. thanks for reading this, i hope you share my view :)

when I first started playing this bullsh*t EXPANSION PACK... I was really excited to get into it... then I saw Desmond... I realized I was actually looking at Adam Sandler... then it all made sense... he ruins EVERYTHING!!

i agree! it definitely ruins the game, and ok, i get that the animus may have changed it some how, this and that, but at the end when Desmond wakes up, he still looks the same as he did in the animus.. and what about his scar?? >:(

@Mwahaha Actually Francisco Randez was the model for the face, but that is about it. He said so himself that it was cool that his face was being used in a video game but did not really get any other perks from it (apart from it being on the CV). I think the changes were made to make the characters look similar enough to be related (Old Ezio does look different), so the others had to change is my guess at their line of thought.

@Daniel I too do not like the new look of the main characters. I think an understandable scenario to explain what we mean to people who don't understand why we are fussing about faces is the following: imagine watching your favourite sitcom and from one day to the next they swap out the actor of your favourite character for someone completely different.

Not only that, they also hired a different voice actor for Altair and Subject 16, that really annoys me, Revelations is my least favorite AC game. why did they do this to a strong franchise? I loved the "Insane" voice of Subject 16 in AC2 and brotherhood.
